Sunday Mornings
At OCF, music is seen as a powerful and culturally accessible means of unifying our hearts and voices in a common expression of praise, adoration, love, and thanksgiving to our God. The style of music sung here at OCF is predominantly “contemporary” with a tendency towards pop and rock music and some gospel thrown into the mix. Traditional hymns and choruses (such as “Amazing Grace” or “The Solid Rock”) are adapted to a contemporary style and are also part of our team’s repertoire. Our worship leader relies upon God’s wisdom and insight in programming a particular Sunday service, or listening to and selecting new music - trusting God to reveal the seasons of growth, the needs of our people, and His purposes for our worship times. The pastor/elder team and worship team members also give suggestions for our song selection.
Our Purpose
The purpose of musical worship is to lead the congregation in a corporate response of worship to God. We encourage the act of worship as our appropriate response to God’s character, nature, and love as revealed through His Son, the Holy Spirit’s work within us, and His written word to us. Worship is given solely for God’s glory and honor.
Our Values
Various churches adhere to a spectrum of values on who should be part of a worship team. At one extreme is the attitude that a “heart for worship” should be the primary focus and God will take care of the final product. At the other extreme, musical quality is the primary target and the goal is polished sound and presentation. At OCF, we seek what we believe to be a place of balance. We value BOTH the spiritual heart of a member AND the quality and skill involved in each worship service. If you would like to pursue involvement with this ministry, we have expectations and standards for your spiritual development as well as the musical quality of your contribution. Please
contact Margy if you are interested in auditioning for the worship team.
