From Luke 5:1-11, Pastor Joe Hellerman teaches on Jesus calling Peter to follow Him. Peter has already witnessed Jesus’ preaching and His healing miracles.  But now in the story of Peter’s fishing boat and his empty nets, the “Healer” reveals Himself to Peter as LORD of all Creation.  Peter falls down in humility and asks Jesus to “depart…for [he] is a sinful man”. (Compare Peter’s response to similar responses found in Isaiah 6:1-5 and Revelation 1:17.)

Peter then hears two things we also need to hear: 1) “Do not be afraid…” – Jesus pulls Peter into a personal relationship, and 2) “…from now on…” – Jesus calls and commissions Peter to be a servant of the living God.

As the LORD reveals His love and sovereignty to us, may we continually respond with a life of humility and obedience.
