Bible Text: Luke 7:18-35 |

Series:

Today we are in Luke 7:18-35 (and the parallel passage in Matthew 11:2-19). Pastor Chris takes a look at what John the Baptist was expecting of the Messiah, and why he had doubts that Jesus was the Promised One.

Jesus answers John’s questions by pointing back to the descriptions of the Messiah found in Isaiah 35:5-6 and 61:1-4. He is moving among the people as a teacher and a healer, and He has demonstrated His authority over life and death.

Our own doubts that the Lord sees, knows and loves us, can grow when we are overwhelmed by the pain of life around us or by our own failings and weaknesses.  That’s when we need to receive Jesus’ answer to God in Luke 17:22, “…Blessed is the one who is not offended by me.” We can trust that Jesus is the One, trust His love, and put our faith in Him.
